COSTA RICA
Family Yoga Retreat
with Jenn Wooten, Jonathan Hewitt and guests
March 14-20, 2020

early bird pricing available for a limited time

The Costa Rican motto “Pura Vida” is more than just a slang term, but a conscious way of living. Simply translated, it means “simple life” or “pure life”, but really it is a mindset of being with the flow of things as they arise. Not surprisingly, Costa Rica has been named one of the happiest countries in the world.

We invite you to join us on this special retreat / vacation as we dip our toes into this Pura Vida way of life to experience more connection and more flow with ourselves and our families.

We’ll meet just a short shuttle ride from the San Jose International Airport at our home for the week – a spectacular property perched high above the volcanic hills of Aljuela.  The sounds of the rainforest and sunrise will be your alarm clock as your bio-rhythms re-set. You’ll be nourished by healthful meals and mountain air, and be met with a daily offering of specially designed classes and workshops for parents, teens and kids 6+.

On-site is a world class spa with dedicated healers offering specialty wellness treatments (including Watsu pool massage), and for some added adventure, our center offers off site excursions including zip-lining, white water rafting, and waterfall and butterfly garden tours.

Our vision is to combine an unforgettable family vacation that leaves you feeling more nourished at the end of the week, complete with unforgettable memories, personal rejuvenation, deeper family connection, and new friendships.

We look forward to sharing the Pura Vida with you and your family!

Costa Rica Family Yoga Retreat

Vacation Details

Your retreat week includes your lodging for the week, healthful meals, your family airport shuttle to and from SJO International and the full program of classes for your family including:

Adult Flow and Yin Style Yoga classes (14+)
Through meditation, movement, breathing, and self-awareness exercises, you’ll learn how to:

  • Shift from frustration & anxiety to patience & peace
  • Practice Self-care to be a better parent, partner & friend
  • Navigate stressors to feel more engaged, present & joyful in life

Parenting Workshops:
In these experiential workshops you will learn how to:

  • Stay centered and in the flow while parenting
  • Create more joyful and peaceful communication, connection, and cooperation
  • Learn simple effective tools to address parenting challenges

It’s not about being perfect! Parenting, like anything in life, has challenges. But come learn effective tools to navigate those challenges and find the FLOW in your family life.

Family Workshops:
Using the joys and challenges of family life to become more connected, caring, cooperative and fulfilled. Themes such as:

  • Family Communication – practicing how to simply, clearly, and authentically express yourselves while learning how to be caring, empathetic, and deep listeners.
  • Emotional Safety Plan – working with your family members to find the best ways to support oneself and others in times of emotional upset.
  • Teamwork – learning the importance and responsibility of contributing to the family team allowing each family member and the family as a whole to thrive.

Kids Classes (6+)
Where martial arts meets inner well-being! Through fun martial arts games and drills, kids will have tangible learning experiences in mindfulness, conscious breathing, and social-emotional intelligence. Classes emphasize intrinsic motivation and focus on connection rather than competition in an environment that encourages empathy, kindness and teamwork.

*IMPORTANT* The minimum age for our retreat programming is 6.  The center does NOT offer baby sitting services, so outside of class times, kids must be supervised by an adult. We will offer some kid craft time and a few other opportunities outside of adult classes for parents to have some personal time to attend parent-centered workshops or simply rejuvenate in the spa or hot tub.

“May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back, the way it is with children”

-Rainer Maria Rilke

Please plan to arrive to San Jose International airport on March 14th. Your retreat begins with a 6:30pm dinner on the 14th, followed by a short opening session, and ends with breakfast on the 20th.  Check-in time at Pura Vida is 2 pm. Check-out is 11 am.

We will collect participants’ travel plans well in advance and will arrange your airport transfers (included as part of your retreat!).

Costa Rican law requires your passport be valid for at least 90 days after the date you enter the country. Please check your passport’s expiration date now. A $29 non-residency departure tax will be due when departing Costa Rica, though most major airlines now include this cost in their ticket price.

The climate in the mountains of Costa Rica’s Central Valley is beautiful year-round with warm days (70s-80s F) and mild nights (60s F). The sun rises at 5:30 and sets around 6:00 all year long. North America’s winter is Costa Rica’s summer, and late February-early March is full of verdant flora and fauna.
