Vacation Details

This special yoga and art vacation will open a passageway into the history of the City of Light and into the lives of the artists who grace her streets. This springtime journey will give you a timeless experience of the landscapes and architecture that inspired France’s most cherished painters and artists. We will explore the vision of these creative minds, and open our own eyes through the process of yoga, connecting to the play of light and creative energy that exists within each of us. Arrive in Paris and spend three nights in a Phillipe Stark designed hotel, walk the streets, see the sights, and stand before paintings housed in buildings that themselves are a pinnacle of human artistry. Then eat French food in a few of the cafes where the artists and poets themselves gathered to ponder life and argue the purpose of art. Take time to practice yoga and stay refreshed and centered, and open to the creative energy of the city. During the second half of our trip, we will travel to Giverny in the French countryside and spend four nights nestled in a spa resort in the French countryside near the home of impressionist master Claude Monet. There, we will see the landscape that so inspired this legendary heart. this retreat is a perfect combination of inspired nature and cosmopolitan culture, and it features some of the best sights of France. Your guide on this journey will be Libby Cox, a longtime yoga teacher and yoga teacher trainer, who long before her yoga career was a student of art, art history, and the French language. These interests landed her in France on a number of different occasions, the most prominent of which was a year in Paris as an art and art history student. A real-surreal figure painter by trade, Libby was pleasantly surprised to fall in love with the floral and landscape paintings of the Impressionists, and she was compelled to follow their lives through the cafes and museums that still hold their history. This retreat is limited to 16 students. A deposit will secure your space and we’re happy to assist you with a payment plan.

Travel, Additional Information & FAQ’s

Please plan to arrive the morning of April 16th (from the U.S. this will be an overnight flight departing on the 15th). We will plan to meet at the hotel (Mama Shelter / Paris) and will help coordinate travelers arriving at similar times to get from the airport to the hotel. Our formal retreat will begin with a nice walkabout and dinner in Paris. Our general itinerary (subject to slight changes based on timing and group desires):

Day 1 (Saturday)
Arrivals in Paris.  We’ll meet at our Philipe Stark designed hotel: Mama Shelter, Paris.  Check-in is at 3pm, but we will collect flight arrival details and connect everyone in advance.  Before dinner, we’ll stretch our legs on a walk beginning on the central island — the heart of Paris, Ile de La Cite, on the banks of the Seine. View Notre Dame, among other classic panoramas of Paris. WE’LL STROLL BY some of the famous places including Shakespeare and Company, the old English bookstore on the bank of the Seine, where artists live and write; bridges of Paris, including the Pont Neuf, and the Pont des Arts, where Parisiens often picnic on the bridge on summer evenings.
Dinner on Rue de la Huchette, a street filled with old jazz clubs, wine cellars, theaters and international fare.

Day 2 (Sunday)
Musee D’Orsay is one of the largest art museums in Paris. Here, we will view the Impressionist collection, and works from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The building itself is something to behold. The musee D’Orsay was a bustling train station called the Gare D’Orsay, a Beaux-Art rail-station built in 1898-1900.  Lunch in some fantastic cafe. Group dinner at Mama Shelter.

Day 3 (Monday)
Stroll through the streets of the famous Montmartre neighborhood in Paris. Capture views of the Sacret Heart church on the hilltop, climb the stairs, and reflect back on a full-spectrum view of the whole city. Libby will point out famous landmarks, then take you on a tour to see the Moulin Rouge and the old location of Le Grenouillere, the cafe where Monet and the Impressionists & philosophers would meet to talk about life and art.  We’ll have a simple lunch and later scratch the surface of the Louvre to see the Winged Victory and Mona Lisa. We’ll walk around the grounds of this epic king’s castle, see the gardens, and settle in for dinner on the terrace of a cafe near the modern art square Palais Royal.

Day 4 (Tuesday)
After breakfast and a stroll, we’ll take a group shuttle to Giverny for check in at Domaine de la Corniche.  A simple lunch, free time to settle in,  a nice relaxing yoga class and group dinner prepare us for this leg of our adventure.

Day 5, 6, 7 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) – During these days, we’ll enjoy the countryside and our beautiful spa hotel. Yoga classes, a day tour of Monet’s home and free time to explore Giverny and the special features of this region. Breakfasts and Group dinners included and a special lunch at Cafe Terre. Optional explorations will be available in addition to spa and relaxation time.

Day 8 (Saturday)
Light breakfast and group transport to the airport.
