The Simplicity of Being,
Yoga and Meditation Immersion
with Karlie Lemos and Sheila Singh
March 17-24, 2018
1 casita and 2 roommate spaces available.
Join Karlie Lemos and Sheila Singh on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for a 7 night Simplicity of Being, Yoga and Meditation Immersion. Life can often feel full and move fast. Days become easily consumed with doing, leaving the experience of being far in the background. Without spaces to pause and be, we might find ourselves feeling depleted, as well as unsure of where we are headed and what feels aligned in our hearts.
This week will be an opportunity to slow down, simplify and restore. Karlie and Sheila will hold space for you to return to the essence of being and to recognize heartfelt direction and purpose. As routines and responsibilities fall away, we may also begin to feel a quiet peacefulness that otherwise goes unnoticed.
Each day will include yoga practice, guided meditation and the opportunity to restore with yoga nidra (deep relaxation) all in a studio overlooking the Caribbean. As the outer momentum and noise begins to subside, meditation will offer space for reflection. You will have generous periods of time to be both on your own and in the warmth of community. In the spaces between, you may choose to rest and replenish alongside the turquoise waters and sandy shores of the Caribbean Ocean or enjoy a massage or two or.
We have only 9 cabanas, so this retreat is limited to 15-18 students. Reserve your space early!

Travel, Additional Information & FAQ’s
Our home for the week takes us approximately 90 miles south of Cancun on the Caribbean coast of Northeast Mexico known as the Riviera Maya, a verdant area bordered by a pristine blue ocean and emerald-green tropical forests and jungles. The world’s second longest reef stretches from Quintana Roo to Honduras with miles of some of the best beaches in the Western Hemisphere. The Riviera Maya is home to tranquil sea coves, bays, lagoons, caves, cenotes, and other landmarks that are vestiges of a culture thousands of years old.
The influence of ancient Mayan culture on the Yucatan Peninsula makes this area unlike any other in Mexico. The resort is located just a few miles from the ruins of the 13th century Pyramid El Castillo (The Castle) that provide a breathtaking view of the sea crashing below. Tulum boasts an unspoiled native village that is a refreshing contrast to the tourist towns farther north.
Shambhala Petit lies on a secluded road, with its own dramatic beach and private cover. Should you wish to retreat into a world of your own, the resort is self-contained, but with plenty of opportunities to explore the unique offerings of the Riviera Maya and its ancient, mysterious culture. We will be there during one of the most beautiful times of year, when the temperatures range from 78 to 85°F and the water is warm yet refreshing. Guests are free to explore the different beaches in the area, many an easy ride or even a walk from the resort, or simply relax on your private beach listening to the ever-present rhythm of the waves and enjoying nature in all its splendor.
After an easy 90-minute drive, you’ll arrive at your beach paradise. The first meal included in your retreat is dinner, but should you arrive early, you can order some light fare off the restaurant menu and take an ocean swim. Check out time is anytime before noon on the last day.
The center offers one complimentary group shuttle to and from the Cancun Airport on the arrival and departure days. If you choose flights outside these times, this is no problem, you will just need to arrange your own transportation / shuttle to the hotel. Shambhala Petit recommends: Happy Shuttle if you are booking your own transportation.
GROUP ARRIVAL SHUTTLE on MARCH 17 – will be scheduled to pick up between 2 and 2:30pm. If your flight arrives between 11am and 1pm, this is ideal
GROUP DEPARTURE SHUTTLE on MARCH 24 – we had planned a early morning shuttle originally (departing around 8:30am) – but almost ALL of you so far have flights departing 4pm – 5pm, so we are currently planning to offer a shuttle that will arrive no later than 2pm. For other departure times, we can connect participants to share the cost of a private shuttle.

Karlie Lemos, E-RYT-500, discovered her yoga practice in 1998. In 2005 she completed her 200 hour Hatha teacher training through the lens of Iyengar Yoga. Karlie went on to complete her 500 hour certification under the guidance of Christina Sell, after years spent immersed in Anusara Yoga. Karlie also draws from her background in Ashtanga Vinysasa, Yin and Restorative yoga.
She is known for her skill in sequencing asana and offering safe, well-rounded and grounded practices; as well as being able to meet all students from yoga beginners to seasoned practitioners where they’re at.
She is inspired by the deep well of yoga philosophy and threads these perspectives into her asana classes from a light-hearted and playful perspective. She offers a space for students to use their body as a vehicle for growth, healing, discovery and empowerment.
Sheila’s chance encounter with yoga, while traveling through Kauai two decades ago, led her on an unexpected and transformative journey. Although her roots began in the world of science and engineering, her path eventually called her to study the workings of the mind, and to embrace the wisdom of the heart and spirit. Since that first encounter, Sheila has been immersing in the practice and study of yoga, meditation, and nondual philosophy. She has been fortunate to learn directly from David Swenson, Sarah Powers, and Richard Miller and continues to sit with them when she can.
Sheila hopes to create spaces that allow students to slow down, restore and return. She encourages compassionate self-exploration and curiosity for life’s unfolding, while guiding practitioners to embody the wholeness and wisdom that lies within. Weaving together gentle movement, meditation, and yoga nidra, Sheila teaches foremost from a place of intuition and from the heart of her own experience. It brings her great joy to create a feeling of community and a lightness through which to explore life.
Sheila is eternally grateful to her family and especially her two girls who are an unwavering source of love and inspiration every day.
